- Mounting a television needs no permit in Tuscaloosa. Putting a socket behind it does. The city’s list exempts “Repair or replacement of electrical fixtures with no new circuits” and permits “Alterations that involve running new circuits” — so the bracket is free of paperwork and the tidy new outlet you wanted behind the screen is a permitted electrical job. What moves the number
- How many items, and whether they are in one room. Six things on one visit costs far less per item than six visits.
- What it is going on. A stud wall takes a lag bolt and twenty minutes; plaster, brick, tile or a metal-stud wall takes the right fixing and longer, and guessing here is how a television ends up on the floor.
- Whether the anchor hardware came in the box. Furniture made after September 2023 is built to a federal stability standard and ships with restraints. Older furniture usually does not, and the right fixing has to be bought.
- Whether the television needs power moved. The bracket needs no permit. A new circuit for a socket behind the screen does, and that is a different job on a different timeline.
- Assembly instructions that are wrong, which is more common than it sounds and is time nobody quoted for.
