What moves the number
- Whether it is the gutter or what it is fixed to. Resealing a joint is a small job. Fascia gone soft behind the gutter is a carpentry job with a gutter on the front of it.
- Height and roofline. A single-story ranch with a straight run is not the same job as a two-story with valleys, dormers and inside corners.
- How far the water has to go once it is down. A downspout ending at the foundation is a problem being moved rather than solved, and extending it properly costs a little more.
- The age of the paint behind it. On a pre-1978 house, disturbing painted fascia brings the federal lead rules in, and that changes the prep rather than the price of the gutter.
