About
Hi, I’m Dexter
I run One Less Thing from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I build the marketing and lead tools that small contractors know they need and never have time for.
Why One Less Thing
I started by helping a family remodeling company, Allen’s Construction, get organized: their estimates, invoices, follow-up and Google presence. It worked well enough that other contractors started asking. One Less Thing is that same setup, offered at a flat monthly price, so a business owner has one fewer thing to chase.
I work with a small number of businesses on purpose. When you email me, you reach me.
A bit more about me
I’m an Army Reserve veteran. My job was 88M, motor transport operator.
One Less Thing isn’t my only project. I also run DLA Academy, an FMCSA-registered online training provider for people earning a commercial driver’s license, along with the websites and content around it. I built its search setup myself. Building and running those taught me how search, reviews and follow-up actually work for a small business, and I bring that to every client.
The same system, on my own business
What it looks like when it’s running
I built the search, reviews and follow-up setup for DLA Academy myself and run it the same way I run it for clients. These are my own numbers, from my own business.
Sources: Google Search Console (16 months through October 2026) and Google Business Profile. This is DLA Academy, my own business, not a client, and it is a different industry from contractors. Results vary by business and market, and these numbers are not a promise of what yours will do.
How I work
Plain pricing
Flat monthly plans from $250, a 3-month start, then month to month with 30 days’ notice.
Your accounts stay yours
Your Google listing, domain and texting registration are in your name. I manage them for you and hand them back if we part ways.
No ranking promises
Nobody honest can guarantee a Google ranking. I do the work and report on calls, requests, reviews and search visibility each month.
What I don’t do
I don’t manage social media. Ads are a separate quote.
